Keli Freitas is a Brazilian playwright, director, actress and researcher based in Portugal.
She graduated in Performing Arts from CAL (Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras – Rio de Janeiro), holds a bachelor’s degree in literature from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and earned a Master’s Degree in Portuguese Studies from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Nova University of Lisbon.
Fascinated by the small stories that often go unnoticed, she has been a collector and researcher of correspondence from anonymous individuals for 16 years, dedicating her work to investigating the writings of so-called ordinary people, conducting biographical research, and highlighting the often-overlooked political dimensions of everyday life.
Keli has written, directed, and acted in all of her recent works, including recently Outra Língua (D. Maria II National Theatre, 2022), Go Back to Where You Came From (PROJETO CASA, 2024), and War Godmothers (D. Maria II National Theatre, 2024). She is the author of 10 other plays, all of which have been presented in both Brazil and Portugal between 2012 and the present.
Project: Building on the well-known concept of guided tours and the universes it encompasses, Guide the Tour is a writing project focused on storytelling that aims to discover other ways of touring places and stories.
